I am always looking for cozy, relaxing places to stay between Napa and Sonoma so I can share the very best with you! In November last year, my husband and I stayed at this superb airbnb called Dove Cottage in Sonoma. We had a blast cooking, unwinding, and trying some outstanding wines during the weekend. I highly recommend Dove Cottage for a getaway that feels like your home away from home!!
A little more about Dove Cottage: it is a calming sanctuary in the middle of the Wine Country, close to Sonoma Plaza. It is a completely private residence with it’s own solar-heated pool and a large private deck for entertaining, dining, and relaxing. It has a lush, wrap-around garden, and a modern, clean, minimal interior space. It is perfectly located close to Sonoma Square for the best in fine dining and access to some of the best wineries in the world. It is also very close to Napa Valley (about 20 minutes from downtown Napa).
Dove Cottage is perfect for a couple’s romantic weekend away, or a fun weekend for a small family with kids enjoying the pool (with an automatic cover, so very safe) and Traintown is just around the corner.
Besides being a beautiful little getaway, they have also put a lot of thought into the details: Dove Cottage has air-conditioning/heating and features a beautiful custom luxury kitchen with all the appliances I could possibly need. It has two Sony HD TV’s with complimentary Netflix and cable, high speed Wi-fi, and unique European design details such as a sliding custom barn-door and two Dutch-style doors. The master suite has French doors that lead straight out to your private deck with a pool view to enjoy the evening sunset or fresh morning air.
With a perfect strategic location, Dove Cottage is close enough to the Square for easy access and yet still has a wonderfully rural setting that allows you to feel as if you’re away from all the hustle and bustle. Sarah Miles is the very friendly owner who helps you have a dream experience in Wine Country. Sarah makes sure your time in this special part of the world is enjoyable and memorable.
A little bit more of our getaway weekend!!
We arrived at the Cottage about noon and planned our weekend. As you may know, we live in Napa and we are already quite familiar with Sonoma’s restaurants as well as other fun things to do, so we preferred to spend most of our time inside exploring all that the Cottage has to offer. However, if you’re visiting Wine Country for the first time, I recommend exploring all around Sonoma County, which is a gorgeous and diverse place with something for everyone!
The first night we invited a couple friends over. We cooked spaghetti with dried tomatoes and fresh basil, which made for an incredibly delicious pairing with the Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir we brought with us. Check out the pictures below.
The next day we went to Whoole Foods Market (our favorite grocery store), which is about 5 minutes from Dove Cottage, and we bought the breakfast essentials. We returned to the Cottage with coffee, fresh juice, Kombucha, fresh fruits, eggs, and bagels. Yummy!!
After our feast, we walked around at Sonoma Plaza which has dozens of quality stores and restaurants. By the time we were back at the Cottage, it was already time to plan our dinner. We absolutely love preparing home cooked meals to pair with different wines and stimulating conversation. The Saturday dinner was composed of wild mushroom risotto with peas, herb crusted halibut, and some Sauvignon Blanc! I really must say I’m becoming a Master Chef, right??!!
During our final day at the Cottage, we enjoyed the pool, a bottle of Rosé (my favorite wine varietal), and pure relaxation. We had such an awesome stay-cation in the Dove Cottage, but now it’s time to say goodbye and check-out!
What more is there to say? I highly recommend staying at this gorgeous property with your family or friends, or for a romantic weekend with that special someone!!
